The Immanuel Wallerstein Chair is organized jointly by the Center for Advanced Studies (CEA) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Córdoba, Argentina, and the Institut für Sozialforschung (IfS), Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Affiliated institutions include the Latin American Council of Social Studies (CLACSO) and the Institute of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (IEALC) of the National University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Chair aims at promoting knowledge of the new critical perspectives produced in the Global South and Global North which seeks to study current processes of global social change.

It is a space for global dialogue, in which prominent intellectuals involved in the renewal of sociology, critical theory and social sciences converge.

The increasing globalization of the main problems experienced by societies on the periphery and in the center of the world requires the construction of new critical theories, as well as new channels for the socialization of knowledge that can back up the intellectual, scientific and political commitment to social change.

ABOUT THE CHAIR

Interinstitutional academic space co-organized
by the Center for Advanced Studies (CEA), of the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Córdoba, Argentina, and the Institut für Sozialforschung (IfS), Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The Chair is named after one of the most recognized sociologists of recent decades in the western hemisphere. His vast work precisely aimed at a major renewal of the social sciences, providing studies of social change with a global vision which, at the same time, considered the specificity of the realities of the Global South. To achieve this goal, Wallerstein insisted, among other aspects, on the need to overcome the old Eurocentric visions of the modern paradigm.

This space for global dialogue is open and free, and its potential recipients are undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, researchers, and the general public.

The activity of the Chair will be structured, mainly, around single sessions with different guest speakers, which will be defined ad hoc. The possibility of organizing thematic cycles that include more than one session will also be considered.
